We’d like to give a tip o’ the cap to The Cameron Kids Program, a Cameron Collector (TCC) initiative that continues to inspire with its members’ generosity, goodwill and giving spirit.
What started out as a group of Cameron Collectors wanting to plant a seed of optimism and provide choices in a “pay it forward” kind of way to a young man at the crossroads of teenage decisions has turned into a magical program affectionately known as The Cameron Kids Program.
Through a TCC member-run nomination process, the program has gifted Scotty Cameron putters to 17 kids to date. We, at the Putter Studio, have provided Custom Shop services to give these putters the personal touch that will make them that much more special to the recipients.
This brings us to the Harley putter. We originally published a bit of Harley’s story in May 2007 on the Blog.
What has transpired in his life, due in part to the collective group of well-wishing Cameron Collectors, is truly an amazing tale that continues to unfold before our very eyes. When we met him, he was an 11-year-old boy who was hanging out at the golf course where his grandfather ran the pro-shop and his dad was holding down the only job he could find, that of a golf cart mechanic.
Harley attached himself to Cameron Collector Stephen Scott as his role model, shadowing him until the youngster was allowed to putt with Stephen’s Scotty Cameron putter. Stephen reached out to TCC, and Harley became the very first recipient of a Scotty Cameron putter through The Cameron Kids Program.
He has now matured into a young man of 15. He has gravitated to the game of golf and has become an active participant on his high school’s athletic teams (football & golf). He has become a model citizen in the classroom, carrying a 3.4 GPA. He understands the signifigance of being the very first Cameron Kid and the responsibility attached to that honor.
In the four years since, Harley’s grown quite a bit, and his putter needed some love, as well. So, Scotty had it sent back to the Custom Shop for full restoration, new paintfill, shaft and grip. Click on the image below to see Harley’s reaction to receiving the putter back after its tune-up.

The best in the business spend lots of time working to be the best. Take for instance long-time Putter Studio friend and Titleist Brand Ambassador Geoff Ogilvy. He’s been a Newport-style putter player for years. Something about the shape suits his eye and stroke. Don’t show him a Newport 2. They just don’t work for him. At Doral he pulled a 009 from the Tour bag and found a connection. Now, he’s in the Studio tinkering to dial in a new 009 to his exact specs. He may just leave with two 009s…They’re working on one in GSS and the other raw carbon, no finish.
