All the Best…

September 11th, 2009

Along with the world’s best Tour players, we sometimes have VIPs into the Studio for a fitting.
They come from all walks of life, ranging from famous actors to motorcycle racers to 9X world champion surfers…like my friend, Kelly Slater.

He’s in town for the upcoming World Championship Tour surfing contest up at Trestles. So, I thought it would be cool to have him in to get the right putter in his hands for his non-surfing pursuits. He’s quite a player in his own right. You may have seen him at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am this year, and recently on Golf Channel.

I’m also a big fan of Kelly’s surfboard shaper, Al Merrick, and how Kelly has been a loyal rider all these years. I hope to get up to Santa Barbara one of these days to meet him. I’m a fan of his work.

Here are a few shots from his visit yesterday. I’m constantly reminded about how golf brings so many different people together. It allows us to meet and interact with people who we’d perhaps never meet. For that, I’m truly grateful.

Wow a trifecta! Scotty, Kelly and talk of a trip to the “Cameron of boards” Al Merricks’s shop. Always love seeing these stories.

Very Cool!!! Golf defenitely has the ability to bring all types together. It is the passion and the love of the game that makes it great! How about a putter or head cover dedicated to the beach…”The Salt Life”? Maybe something sky blue with some surfboards and swells. Your work is the best and the best obviously love your work!!

Surfing is an incredibly tough sport and Kelly makes it look way to easy. Great article. I’ve had an Al Merrick board about 20 years ago, and it was incredible. 6’4″ and one of the boards you never forget. Scotty – I would highly suggest a CI board for you.

It’s great to see Kelly can appreciate the good stuff. It would be great to play with him because you know he can’t take all the waves on the course.
