Prototype Treasure Found!

September 8th, 2009

Looks like the Prototype Napa California headcover now has a happy home…

Dear Scotty,
As a subscribing member and avid collector I saw the article on my e-mail at about 4:00 PM, thought it was a great idea but also thought you must have done this earlier in the day, and it probably was long gone. So, I went down and practiced some chips and putts with my dogs Ice and Keiki.

I had the day off and I had just gotten back from a round of golf with my son Cole who also had the day off from school (he is a Marine Corps GYSGT student at UC San Marcos having spent 3 tours in Iraq). While I was practicing, I started to think what a great day it was with him, maybe it is my lucky day and the headcover is still there. So, I came back to the computer, looked again at the Blog, noticed you posted it at 3:05 PM and your watch in the picture at the hardware store showed 1:45 PM.

So what the heck, I jumped in the car at about 5:15 and drove down Del Dios Highway to Encinitas and to my surprise it was still there! There was a guy on the beach about 10 feet from the umbrella, he was all set up with his towels and cooler but there was the umbrella totally untouched in a mound of sand with the headcover still inside!! It was 5:50 PM who would have thought it would STILL BE THERE. Here are my pictures when I got back.

Thanks, sir. What a thrill and a great Labor Weekend present!!

Sincerely,
Gary N.

What a great story. Exactly how we all hoped it would end.

Hi Scotty,

Wish I lived in SoCal so I would have had a chance at the headcover!! It was still a fun adventure to follow on-line.

Did you sign the umbrella too–that would be a great proto 1/1!!

Way to go Gary. Congrats!!!
And Scotty….what a great idea and contest. Even though those of us up here in Canada and spread out across the rest of the world were unable to take advantage of your generosity, I just want to let you know how cool of an idea this was. Thanks for always thinking up something new! Or, as you might put it, thanks for having……JAT.

Gary, You are truly blessed. Not to have ventured out on a whim to cap off a wonderful day, but to have your son along with you after his tours. Thanks to Scotty for the treasure hunt, but thank God for men like your son. Semper Fi

Ricky B,
Thanks for the kind words words for my son.
I have had three children (Cole – USMC, Brandon – USAF and Erin – USN) in the military, for about 4 years running each one was either in either in Iraq, Afganistan or the Persian Gulf, and they all returned safety. I often think of the parents that were not as lucky as I have been.
Thank God for all the men and women that served over there and other parts of the world in our military for us all!

Cheers!
Gary N.

And thanks to you and your son for his service to our country. You obviously taught him selflessness.
