Are these face balanced?

Scotty wrote on February 9, 2009 at 11:42 am

Almost. They have just a bit of toe hang.

Matt Hoover wrote on February 12, 2009 at 12:35 am

Is there anyway of knowing the exactly dimensions of the head of the standard version of the Kombi?

I really want to have one pre ordered, but I dont want to if the head is too big or too small for my liking.

Glad to say that I have NEVER been so excited for a single putter release in my entire life.

Birdies,

Matt Hoover

Scotty,

Can you explain the advantages of just a bit of toe hang rather than completely face balanced? I’ve noticed that same specs on the Fastback and have been wondering why that would be a better design.

Thank you,

Dave

I still favor and believe that the proper putting stroke involves an arc. Straight back and straight through is a nice concept, but very difficult to do with the nature of how we putt. Lie angle predetermines that we putt on an arc, and toe hang…just a bit…facilitates this type of stroke.

Scotty,

For us young Padiwans, what’s the story of the name “Kombi.” They look really cool!

Scotty wrote on February 18, 2009 at 11:33 am

There’s an old truck that was a “Combination” truck/car/hauler that I like. In fact, I own one. Having the same type of putter head for a standard, mid and long putter gives players the option of different setups with the same type of putter. It’s one platform for a variety of uses, hence the name Studio Select “Kombi”. Of course, the weighting system is different for the mid and long, but the overall concept is the same for each of the lengths. Plus, Studio Select Kombi follows the Fastback 1 and Squareback 1 ideas, as far as naming goes.

Sorry, I know this is random and probabbly not at all in the right place, but could the custom shop restore my newport oil can with the oil can finish, and not in the pro platinum?

Scotty wrote on February 9, 2009 at 11:42 am

Yes. We’d be happy to do that. If you have any questions, please call the Custom Shop: (760) 591-9720 (8am-5pm PST).

Thanks,
Scotty

Hey Scotty

Im just wondering the name of the custom putter you made for the JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am in Adare Manor in Ireland the last time it was held?(I think it was 2005)

I got one as a present off a friend whos grandad played in the event!! Its pretty beat up which is a pity as I love it. Would you be able to repair it if I sent it into the you?

Thanks
David

Dave McFetridge wrote on February 12, 2009 at 6:16 am

Is having it completely face balanced an option from the custom shop? I’ve been playing a pro platinum newport 2 for 10 years or so and with my SBST stroke I feel I’m fighting the putter. I was also looking at the fastback. Can you advise why you feel having a bit of toe hang is better than totally face balanced? Also, can you provide some advice in selecting the proper loft?

Thank you,

Dave

Scotty wrote on February 18, 2009 at 11:41 am

Completely face balanced is not an option. Please see my response above regarding toe hang.
Thanks,
Scotty

Scotty,

I read the release on this putter and I am realy excited for it. I was a bit confused and was wondering if the Kombi Md is going to be offered in a left handed version.

Thank you.

Scotty this is random but are u coming out with any center shafted putters? The 2.6 is nice but i like the mallet look of the red x2 better. My friend said yall were coming out either with a kombi cs or a squareback cs is any of this info. true? And if not do u plan to come out with one?

Thanks always,

Hunter

Scotty wrote on February 18, 2009 at 12:13 pm

I usually don’t do “center shafted”, but do some “straight shafted” putters. I’ve made some for Tour, so you never know. Perhaps.

Just want to know how to pre-order a RH Kombi Long. I have called all the usual suspects (Edwin Watts, Golfsmith, TGW) and they have no idea what I am talking about.

BTW- THANK YOU FOR MAKING ANOTHER LONG PUTTER!!!!! MY FUTURA THANKS YOU TOO

RICHARD ROMERO wrote on March 5, 2009 at 9:25 pm

Scotty,

Just got my daughter a Fastback because she is a straight back straight forward putter. Switched her from the New Port 2. The problem now is she can not get the speed right on the fastback. Her long putts are terrible. The weight in the putter is 15. Few questions here:

Should I lower the weight to 10 for better feel?
Did I screw up the swing weight on the putter by cutting down?
If i cut to short will she lose feel?

She is 12 ..she shot 85 yesterday with 9-3 putts….I have never seen that many from here…she could not get the speed…of course this is partly user error (hehe) im sure…but would love your imput!

ps…i use a Newport 2 also….:) AWESOME!

Thanks

Scotty wrote on March 6, 2009 at 11:49 am

You actually want to add weight to the putter head for proper swingweight and balance when you cut it down. Cutting too short can cause it to feel stiff and light, perhaps throwing off her stroke. JAT.

All the best,
Scotty

JJ PARKER wrote on March 8, 2009 at 8:16 am

IF I NEED 45 INCH BELLY SHOULD I BUY MID AND ADD TO IT? OR BUY THE LONG AND CUT IT DOWN. THANKS JJ

Scotty wrote on March 9, 2009 at 11:09 am

I’d strongly suggest going with a Mid and having the Custom Shop add the length to it. Reason being, the lie angle on a Mid is 71 degrees, and will be set up better for you. With a lie angle of 79 degrees, the Kombi Long will be too upright for you. JAT.

Take care,
Scotty

Scotty,
Do you have to change up your customer options for the customer shop for that long awaited Kombi? I’m anxious to see your creativity at work with this awesome new revolutionizing mallet putter. Best in the biz. I’ll send my Kombi in to get Pimped! Keep up the good work.

Hunter Nichols wrote on March 25, 2009 at 2:56 pm

Dear Mr.Scotty,

I know you replyed to my first comment and i thank you but The Studio Select Kombi Straight shafted putter thats all black in your tour articles.. Are you actually going to come out with this next year maybe this fall and will it be all black. My red x2 i was talking of in my first response was sent to Black Oxide services and would like to know if th Kombi Straight Shafted will be all black if you come out with it …hopefully i would pay $350 for one like that

Frank wrote on March 29, 2009 at 5:52 pm

Scotty,

I am currently in the market for a mallet putter, and I am looking at the Kombi, Fastback and Squareback. How would you compare the MOI of each of these putters. Just based on the size and shape of the putters, I would guess that the Kombi has the highest MOI, followed by the Squareback and then the Fastback.

Would that be correct?

Thanks.

Brian wrote on April 11, 2009 at 5:43 pm

Mr. Cameron,
i have a near straight back and straight through stroke and have been looking for a good putter for my style of putting. i found that center shafted and face balanced putters work very well. i really like both your fasback and squareback models but i feel like they are toe weighted a little bit too much. i noticed that Rory Macilroy uses the center shafted proto fastback, and i was wondering if there is one of those that i could get my hands on or if you have that model coming out for the public.
thank you.

Scotty wrote on April 13, 2009 at 12:01 pm

Rory’s is For Tour Use Only at this point, but a straight-shafted Fastback isn’t out of the question in the future.

SC

Sam Towler wrote on March 14, 2010 at 2:14 pm

is it possible to get hold of a center shafted fastback?

thanks

I saw that your are offering the 34″ & 35″ in a Heavy version. What is the weight difference? Is it possible to also make available in the 33″?

Thanks

Scotty wrote on May 4, 2009 at 11:52 am

Studio Select Kombi Heavy versions come with an additional 10g of weight. If you’d like a 33″ version made heavier, you can send it into the Custom Shop for more weight. We do not currently configure a 33″ Heavy version for Titleist golf shops. Thanks for your comments.

Any possibility for a LH Newport 2.6 center shaft?

Jerry wrote on July 13, 2009 at 12:46 pm

Why aren’t the swightweights of the shorter putters (33) as high as the longer puters (35)?

bryan wrote on July 14, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Scotty,

I ordered the kombi and can’t wait for it to get here. Just one question, if I send it in to get pimped at the studio can I get the black oxide finish?

Scotty wrote on July 15, 2009 at 3:58 pm

That finish isn’t available, as this is an aluminum-bodied putter. Also, we only offer black oxide on putters that originally came with that finish.

I have a 43 inch Red X belly putter which I love, but I struggle with alignmnet. Is the Kombi a good option with the alignment aids and is it as heavy as the large RED X?

Thanks,

Kevin

Scotty,
When or if there is even a chance, are you going to release the BLACK KOMBI? Boy, that sure looks sharp, and would be in my bag tomorrow!

I’m only 5ft2, looking for a 32″ Kombi S? Is this possible?

Mike wrote on March 12, 2011 at 6:54 am

I am a big fan of CS long putters. When I saw Adam Scott with the Kombi CS I started looking to see if there were any out there. Do you plan to produce these or can I send it in the Custom Shop to have it modified? Thanks. Mike

ezany wrote on March 22, 2011 at 12:23 am

i wanted to buy a 50″ long kombi putter n cut it down to 34″
is this possible?

Tim wrote on August 6, 2011 at 4:26 pm

Scotty – it appears, at least on television, that the shaft in Adam
Scott’s long putter is straight right down to the putterhead
without the bend that is on the Kombi long shafted putter on your
website. If in fact this is correct can a straight shafted long
putter be ordered?

Darren wrote on August 10, 2011 at 10:12 pm

Scotty, I am in the market for a 40 inch Kombi…what are my
options? Can the custom shop build this? Can I cut down a 43 inch?
Thanks, Darren

Jeff wrote on August 12, 2011 at 10:12 pm

Agree. I am interested in a straight shaft. Is that available? I am
6’6″ and need one about 53 inches. Is this possible to get?

WMartin wrote on August 19, 2011 at 9:05 pm

Could the custom shop make a LEFT handed Long Kombi?

Scotty wrote on August 22, 2011 at 10:57 am

We do not offer that service. Thanks for your interest! All the
best, Scotty

Mark Dunn wrote on August 25, 2011 at 12:08 pm

So, is there no way to order a Studio Select Kombi at 48 inches in
length, with a center shaft and no offset? Isn’t that what Adam
Scott is using on tour?

Scotty wrote on August 25, 2011 at 12:35 pm

It is a Tour-only prototype, made especially for Adam Scott. We do
not have them available at retail. Thanks for your interest. All
the best, Scotty

Sam wrote on August 25, 2011 at 8:47 pm

Can we expect to see the Kombi in your new line for 2012? With the
reported black oxide finish and teryllium inserts?

Brian wrote on October 25, 2011 at 10:27 am

Is the Black Kombi like the one that Davis Love III is using going
to be available for the public to purchase at some point?

Eddy.s wrote on December 27, 2011 at 5:59 am

Hey mate 2 quick questions. first is it possible to have my putter
weights stamped in the custom shop with a logo of my choice.
secound when you make for tour use only putters is that only for
the uspga and euro pga or is that for any tour ?

Scotty wrote on January 3, 2012 at 11:42 am

We don’t stamp putter weights; we do offer engraved weights,
though. Check out the Custom Shop order form. Tour putters are made
for any and all professional golf tours worldwide. All the best,
Scotty
