The Winning Edge

September 8th, 2008

Relying on his Scotty Cameron Circa 62 No. 6 putter, Cobra staff player Camilo Villegas captured his first PGA Tour victory yesterday at the BMW Championship, while finishing 1st in Putts Per Greens in Regulation (1.608) and T1 in Putts Per Round (27.0).

The win is the 18th for Scotty Cameron putters on the 2008 PGA TOUR, more than twice the nearest competitor with 8. A win on the Nationwide Tour this week brings the Scotty Cameron Circle T Timeline to 56 worldwide wins in 2008, including The Masters and U.S. Open.

Another interesting note from yesterday’s finish is the fact that the top 4 players each relied on a different Scotty Cameron putter to get the job done. Camilo played a Circa 62 No. 6, Titleist brand ambassador Dudley Hart played a Fastback and finished two shots back, while the players tied for third gamed a Tour Del Mar 3.5 and a T10 Select Newport 2. A player tied for 5th place also put his T10 Select Newport 2 to good use.

I had the good fortune of marshalling the BMW Championship, and working the practice green among other duties. Getting to see so many cool Cammies up close was a real treat. And it’s fun to see the wide variety of covers the guys are using too — from simple OTR covers to the Circle T Majors, and all points in between!
I did an unofficial tally of how many of the 69 participants had Scottys in their bag during the practice rounds & Pro-Am on Tuesday and Wednesday. Of the 65 of 69 bags I was able to peek into, 39 had a Cameron putter (or several). Many were “hidden” under other kinds of covers, but they were certainly there. I was really happy with the high percentage in use before the official club count was made.

Camilo is a great & deserving champion, and a proud Scotty ambassador. Congrats!

Saw Camillo up close on the 11th hole at Glen Abbey for this year’s Canadian Open(Marshal). Love his Cameron and glad he finally won.
