Northern Trust Open @ Riviera
February 14th, 2008
Just checking in with a slideshow from this week’s Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club up in L.A. I had a busy day shuttling between the practice green and the Titleist tour van, meeting with players, and helping my putter reps get the guys ready for action on Thursday. With the PGA Tour in such close proximity to the Putter Studio during the West Coast Swing, it’s a great time to catch up with loyal putter players to see what they are looking for as they gear up for the rest of the season.
Click on the image below to launch the slideshow, and thanks for stopping by the Blog.

Scotty,
Thanks for continuing to share the great photos. Love to see what the guys are gaming out there.

Scotty,
I would guess there to be a circle T embroidered on the tour Select head covers.
Can you elaborate?
I know you work hard, but don’t work too hard… we fans appreciate what you provide to the game.
Thanks,
Jimmy James
Actually Jimmy James the Circle T is for tour players, for tour use only. The only way you can get one is to become a pro, or by one used from a pro. Or eBay… haha
Coming soon to a Tour near you!
Scotty
Thanks for the pictures!
Is the Studio Select paintfill the same you have used for the Scotty Dog keychains?
Kris
It’s very, very similar, Kris.
Take care, Scotty
great pictures; Looking forward to my new studio select in time for course opening in late March
I went to the Northern Trust Open on Friday and was following Davis Love III ….. Was he using the new Fastback putter out there? I thought I saw some other players using it too. Actually I couldn’t tell if they were using the squareback or the fastback… Just curious…
I know Davis has one, but I’m not sure if he gamed it that day.
Scotty
Your putters a true work of art. I watch every one of the slideshows, this was a good one. When are the studio selects coming out to the public? Also when do you put out the 2008 line? Thanks!
The new line ships in mid-March to Titleist golf shops worldwide.
Scotty
Nice to see another heavily gamed Laguna MidSlant…whoever owns that one has great taste!…I also want a refurb on my Laguna and a MS Studio Select too!
Lovin the work you do Scotty! Thanks for the insights.
Liam.
Scotty,
Will there be a center shaft model with the new Studio Select line?
Alex
Not with this first release. Perhaps down the line.
Scotty
when do you anticipate releasing the studio select putters?
They’re shipping now.

Scotty:
C.__ was rolling the “bullet sole” pretty well all week at Riviera CC. Didn’t see him break out the new one, however. Maybe he’ll “break it in” slowly. Would like to see him in the winner’s circle again.
Saw a lot of your “new line” on the greens at Riviera while I watched all week on TV. Lots of Studio Selects; Fastbacks and Squarebacks in attendance on Tour!!
Bodes well for your new designs!!!
Thanks for the pics of Riviera CC…a course that I have to put on my “bucket list” of places to play someday,,,:)
all the best,
eddie
Hey Scotty, love the pictures of that early bullet sole.
I notice some differences between that and the current bullet sole. I also noticed it wasn’t at all like the Garage putter that I bought out of your bag at the 2003 Cameron Convention, which I think was referred to as a Catamaran sole back then. I believe you also did a putter with that sole for David Toms back in the day.
So, how many different variations have you gone through to “get it right?” And how many prototypes have you made all together?
Keep it coming with the great pictures and information. Speaking for all of the “Cameron Crazies,” we appreciate you sharing with us
As you like to call me….
“The Vog”
Hey Vog,
I prefer to call it a Bullet bottom, but you’re right…those putters have been referred to by different names over the years. Depending on the desired finished weight, I’ll go shallower or deeper with the end mill to remove more/less metal. Some may think I do this for looks, but it’s purely to remove the weight because these putters don’t have a pocket. Gotta remove it from the bottom. I’ve probably done a few dozen variations and prototypes over the years. Not too many, and I’m still working with new prototypes of my Bullet Bottoms. Thanks for checking in.
Take care,
Scotty
Scotty,
Photo 22 looks like you are bringing back the cord grip, this time in red. Will there be a red “cord no cord” grip? If so will it be available through the custom shop? Thanks, Bill
Perhaps down the road, but not immediately.

Again great looking putters. Please reassure me that there are some sexy pieces in the 2008 range for us left handers. Something like a select head with a mid - slant ( like the pro platinum’s ) would be nice? Us lefties get limited choice !!!
Best Wishes, Simon
In the pic of new putters at Riviera there looked to be a couple of mids (bellies) behind the first bag. What’s in the works for us belly guys to give a change of pace to my Futura Mid?
Thanks,
How do you tap down ball marks with a bullet bottom? Step on them I guess!
Scotty,
Thank you for putting out such a great line of putters! My wife often asks why I am so into only “your” putters…My reply is simply”They are each a work of art”. Perhaps one day she will be better able to appreciate your artform the way that many of us do.
Love your pictures…Your putters aren’t bad either.
Keep up the fantastic work!!
