September 12th, 2007
We’ve just posted some great new shots from the PGA Tour Playoffs over on ScottyCameron.com. Click here to check out the slideshow.
You’ll even get to take a look at the new Scotty Cameron Newport Squareback prototype introduced last week on Tour.

I noticed some similarly styled putters labeled “Studio Selects” that were recently added to the registry. Are those also prototypes that might come to retail (I hope so, they look great!).
Hi Patrick,
They are prototypes that may/may not come to retail. I have to name them something, so what ends up in the registry may stick or it may change. Thanks for your question.
All the best,
Scotty
Switchblade
… Sounds like a good name for a retail version of the Studio Select!
Would fit quite well with the Skull stamp, yes Sir!
Thanks Scotty,
SJD (Jimmy)
Scotty-san.
I am excited at the picture of a new putter!!
I want to try this putter early.
Can we heavy Cameron fan try it what time?
````````````````
I am worried about two stamps very much.
The stamp is red skull jester stamp@and red skull stamp.
Why did you make such a stamp similar well?
In addition, is the putter which this stamp is stamped with a very rare thing?
Regards,
Scotty-san
~TOMOHIRO~
Hello Tomohiro,
Right now, this putter will be tested on Tour. I’m not sure of its future, but so far it has been getting great reviews from players. Regarding the Red Skull stamps, both the stamps and the putter pictured with it (BBCX) are very rare. Thanks for your questions.
All the best,
Scotty
Scotty,
Another great looking putter! I love the cherry dots in the back. Will we ever see this model or something similar come to our proshops?
Thanks again for the great pics on Scottycameron.com. They look awesome.
Perhaps!
Cya,
Scotty
Scotty,
interesting looking putter! Are those heavier than the normal weight of 330g?
Regards,
Kris
Hi Kris,
The Newport Squareback has a headweight of 350g and the Newport Fastback is 330g.
All the best,
Scotty
I know a good 5 handicap that would be happy to try this putter and give you feedback. You would have opions from the pros and the hackers. Let me know if iI can assist with this it would be my pleasure.
I love the look of the new squareback and fastback putters, traditional look with a little flair. Please release the fastback in 350 Grams in 2008.
Thanks for your time.
Zach
Hi Scotty!
I’m guessing the wider “face to flange” and HUGE bumpers is to improve MOI like the NP 2 detours? Did you have to shrink the “heel to toe” size compared to your standard Newport in order to get at 350G? I’m wondering because the squareback looks like beefy Newport yet still maintains the 350G weight.
Can you please post pictures of the “fastback” too?
By the way I’d be more than happy to “test” anything too!
I really hope you post more of your “special” projects from Cameron “Skunkworks”.
Take care and keep up the great work!
James
Can anyone tell me what month the new line of Scotty Cameron putters are generally released? I am really intreagued by the fastback!
Thanks,
Javier
Scotty
This new Newport Squareback is an outstanding putter. let’s hope it maike it to our pro shops soon.. Are these in Stainless?
Thanks
jim
Hi Jim,
Yes, they are stainless steel. Thanks for checking in.
Scotty
Scotty, I have been excited for you putters previously, but never this much… if the squareback makes it to retail, it will make My Day.
ps. Any thought of producing this head with a Santa Fe style neck? Or maybe even with NP 2 style bumpers?
Keep up the good work,
Thanks,
SJD
I think I speak for 95% of SC enthusiasts when I say that it matters not what neck you put on the new square and fastback putters…Only that you put them into production!
Thanks for always coming up with interesting and new ideas and advancements…and offering 3XL tshirts!!
Mike
Hello, Think you of producing soon this superb produced for the members. Just 1 for France and me!!! Thank you
Scotty,
Curious to see what designs you’ll have for a squareback headcover!
Will any Cameron cover be able to fit on a squareback or will it need it’s own size?
Thank you,
Jimmy
I saw a Squareback owned by Tadd Fujikawa. It had a welded center shaft… but what was most interesting were the two ‘plugs’ on the side-toe-end of the putter. Can you give any insight into this feature?
Thank you,
Jimmy James
Good eye! Those are tungsten rods that I inserted into the head to give it some extra weight for the shorter putter length.
Scotty
Ah hah!
Thanks for your time and response.
Jimmy James
Ok Mr. Cameron, this will be my last question… for a while anyways:
I have been a vintage VW collector, primarily split window micro buses (67 and earlier). As you may know, VW made 3 cars: Fastback, Squareback and the Notchback. Might you have a notch back up your sleeve?
…other possible putter names inspired by vw’s: Kombi, type I, type II, type III.
…also, if your Studio Select comes to retail, you could name it the switchblade.
Pushing my luck,
Better go,
Jimmy James
Definitely pushing your luck, J.J. Ha! Thanks for your comments and for participating on the Blog.
All the best,
Scotty
i saw something on the kombi but cant find pics
hey scotty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my name is sam and im 14 years old!!! i have a question to you!
but first of all i would like to say that im a serious golfer determined to play college and 1 day pga golf. secondly i m a HHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEE sotty cameron fan. i just absolutely adore your putters… everytime i see on of your proto putters i get all excited and my hands start shacking…. #@#@( ive been playing one for 6 years myself. red x centershaft 32and 1 third inch specified to my needs. )#@#@…………
well, about my question…….. one day i sat down and looked at one of your awesome slideshows and saw this absolutely amazing NEWPORT FASTBACK CENTERSHAFT and let me tell you i flipped out. so my question is: how many newport fastbacks did you actually make??? is that the only one?????????
well, once again i love your putters and wish you best of luck in creating more of these phenomenal pieces of art.( hopefully also some fastbacks hihihi) ….
best wishes sam.
Hey Sam,
Let’s just say I haven’t made many of those! Thanks for your comments and enthusiasm.
Take care,
Scotty
Scotty,
I am not a member of Club Cameron, but I am going to join this New Year (once the new package is available). … I just wanted to say that the main reason my interest in your products and services (other than the high quality and sound design) has grown is the fact that you take the time to communicate so generously on this blog.
Thanks for your time Scotty.
Mr. Cameron,
Love the new look of your Newport Fastback. I certainly hope when it makes it into retail that you make a center shafted version of the Fastback, or both for that matter. Thanks !!
As for positive thinking goes i.e.(The Secret) I can see a Squareback in my future…repeat….
Keep up the great work Scotty, the new lines look great.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
TMH ~Dallas TX.
I see Nick Watney is leading in Hawaii (1st round) with a squareback!
Maybe the first of many wins for the squareback in 08?
Jimmy James
Is there any real possibility of the squareback being released to the public? Personally I think that is one of the best putter designs I have seen in a long time. Are there pictures of the fast back putters somewhere? Also, you probably met 1 million people at the US Open but we met briefly there and I just wanted to say how sincere and down to earth you were, especially to a average guy like me. Keep up the great work.
Ken
I’m not sure of the Squareback’s future right now. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, though, so you never know where it will end up. Thanks for the comment.
Scotty
mr. cameron,
which one of your putters was the most difficult to craft?
thanks, nick
very interested in the new studio select Kombi. can i special order this to have maxium weight and all green accents and a specific belly legnth? Will my pro shop be able to do this?
