Custom Shop Putter of the Week | Phase 3

August 30th, 2007

After grinding everything smooth and getting this Santa Fe back in playing shape, we removed the Teryllium insert and gave the putter the complete high buff treatment. This takes out all imperfections and essentially gets the putter back to its original, perfectly smooth and unblemished state. All the nicks, dents and dings are gone. We’ll keep the Teryllium insert in a separate bag, then gun blue the entire head. I hope you enjoy these pictures of the Custom Shop “spa” treatment. Check back later to see some clips from the gun blue process. Thanks again for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the slideshow.

This Santa Fe is really coming along nice. I am certain the finished product will be tremendous. Thanks for sharing the progression of this putter, Scotty!

Thanks for taking us through the process. Very interesting to see it up close, step by step.

Scotty–thanks so much for the close up of your work! I actually have the same putter from the same year that I bought when I was in college. I have been saving for the past year to send it into you, and just picked up a new Santa Fe 1.5 GSS to use in the meantime. You have now given me the evidence to show my wife to justify the means. . .you should be seeing my sole stamp soon! One question for you–for the Tei3 models, what are your thoughts on platinum finish?

Scotty,

Great additions to the blog.

If the Teryllium insert cannot be salvaged, does the custom shop reject the restoration or will the insert be replaced completely?

Can’t wait to see the finished product. Although, the high buff process makes the putter head very nice.

Unfortunately, we have to reject the restoration in that instance, Ted. The Teryllium has to be really beat up for this to happen, though. We can salvage most. Thanks for the question.
All the best,
Scotty

scotty. if the teryllium insert has a 1/16 to 1/8 inch gouge can the teryllium still be restored?

Scotty, thanks for this great “behind the scenes” look at the restoration process.

I think it’s been good for the average Cameron fan to see exactly how much work goes into the restoration process.

I love the pictures of the putter after it’s been polished to a mirror finish.

Scotty,

Looks amazing as usual! Can Pro Platinum putters be re-finished in Charcoal Mist?

Scotty wrote on September 7, 2007 at 3:18 pm

Not at this time. Perhaps down the road.

Is there a place where a person can go to have a customized putter made or fit?

Scotty wrote on October 19, 2007 at 5:44 pm

Arthur,

Although we don’t offer a “custom” putter program for amateur players, our Titleist FittingWorks program may help you get fit for the correct Scotty Cameron putter for you. For a list of authorized Titleist FittingWorks locations in your area, please visit http://www.titleist.com/locator.aspx?bhcp=1 and enter your contact information. Be sure to check the box marked “Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Shop.”

For a list of Fitting Days in your area, please visit http://www.titleist.com/events

Thanks for your question.

Hi Scotty,
Love the mirror finish on the Santa Fe. Just one question though, if the gun blue is applied to the Teryllium what happens?

Keep on rolling em in!!

HI.
Are there different size “inserts” for the Detour putter. Namely, shorter ones, longer ones, and or, something to convert the putter to none at all. Just a face insert.
