Last Week @ Colonial
June 1st, 2007
I was at the event early last week working with players when I caught up with a nice young man named Chris Chmelko. He was extremely knowledgeable about all things Cameron and had that enthusiasm for the game and putters that I love to see. He knew all about our various models, stamps, etc. so I thought it would be cool to show him the inside of the Titleist Tour van to give him an idea of how things work out on Tour.
Chris brought his putter to the event (Studio Stainless Newport 2) with a well-used 2007 Hula Girl headcover, so I had to set him up with a new one. We went with Custom Shop-Lime. While he was there, I thought it might be a good idea to stamp his initials, add purple paintfill, re-grip his Newport 2, apply a little lead tape to the sole to balance out his cut-down putter, and put a new shaftband on it. (Hey, when I see a chance to make something better, I just have to go for it. Chris was all for pimping his putter.)
SignBoy was also on the scene, so we snapped a couple shots. To top it off, Davis Love III dropped into the trailer while Chris was on his way out and they got a few pictures for his scrapbook. Thanks to Chris’ mom for making the trip from Plano, TX, and capturing the fun. All in all, a great visit with a fine young man. It’s people like this who make my job all the more worthwhile.

Really lucky kid. It is refreshing to be reminded sometimes that it isn’t the big people that make business, it is the little ones. Stuff like this makes me glad I am a Scotty Owner.
Very good of you to take the time Scotty as it is always great to see kids excited about the game. I was fortunate to get introduced to golf at a very young age by my Great-Grandfather and now I pass my passion on to my five year old…her excitement re-kindles mine…truly a game for our lifetimes. Take care & have a safe day.
I am Chris’ Junior Team coach. You absolutely made Chris’ life! He was so excited to show off his putter to myself, Kevin Johnson (my co-coach) and his teammates. We all thought the additions were quite cool.
As a Titleist Staff Member, I am very pleased and proud how the Titleist family embraces the golf public and thanks for taking the time to make a golf fan for life in Chris.
the future of the game and the passions involved in the great game of golf are in the hands of young children, like Chris.
it’s our job as elders, who have taken so much from the game, to give back to the kids and encourage their budding passion for the game that we so love.
it’s not surprising that you would be so kind to young Chris, Scotty. You are a “softie” at heart.
and it’s pretty sweet that Chris had the added treat to meet DL III and especially “sign-boy”,Matt Greiser, another whole-hearted Cameron enthusiast.
great story…
That is a great story…Sounds like a day Chris will never forget. I had to read this story to my wife and she knows about Harley and Teddy from TCC and she said, “He (Scotty) is amazing.” Way to make this kids day, Scotty
This is another example of how Scotty loves kids. First Harley, then Teddy and now Chris. Scotty, your generosity with your time and services paves the way for another life long fan. Bravo to you and well done Chris! Stories like this just shows how much good there is in the Cameron community.
Scotty, thank you for being so kind and generous to my nephew Christopher. What an incredible experience for him! My sister Liz is a terrific mom to Christopher and his sister Emily. Liz and her husband John have indeed raised Christopher to be a fine young man. Liz is as big a sports enthusiast as anyone I know. I’m sure that she enjoyed the experience just as much as Christopher did. Thank you again!
Sweet, I want a tour. A personal putter would be nice to. I use a Mil-Spec now and I love it! Camerons are the best.
Class Act!!!
Nice story! Might even inspire me to try a Cameron putter someday
… Started 2 years ago at 46 years old. Got down under 4, but still can’t putt. Maybe it’s time to try one of yours
I have to agree with everyone else that this is a great story. I just found this blog but I think I will be dropping by a lot more often.

That was a great story. I’m sure Chris will be a Cameron enthusiast for life. I’ve been hooked for years and I’ve never even been in the Tour van – LOL. Keep up the good work…
That is a great story. To see someone like Scotty Cameron do that for a young kid, shows that he is passionate about the game and it future.
Man that is a great story! I wish I was that age again. I am an avid fan and collector of Cameron putters. I just packaged my Studio Series III and sent it back to Scotty to be refurbished. It is my baby and has even taken over my original 8802 as the favorite putter in my collection. Please take good care of it Scotty
Scotty,
Your random acts of kindness are pure and genuine, which obviously is a reflection of who you are!!
Putting smiles on childrens faces such as Harley,Teddy, and now Chris…Priceless!
Real life stuff like this makes me all the more prouder to use your putters, and wear your logo!! Thanks for being YOU!
A Cameron fan for life!
Isn’t that what life (and golf) is supposed to be about. Great story Scotty!
Reminds me of a time a couple years back when I played golf with a friend that I don’t see very often and his young son joined us. The boy had only been playing a short time and was fascinated with the Futura putter I was using. After a couple holes I swapped putters with him for the round. He absolutely loved the putter. So much so that at the end of the round we worked a trade. He went home with the Cameron and I went home with his. Even up.
For that moment in time I made a young man very happy, but to this day, everytime I see the young man, he returns the favor. After all, I’m now “Putter Dude”.
Congratulations Chris. Enjoy the putter.
Rob
Scotty,
When I was 10, I had the chance to meet Payne Stewart at a Pro-Am in Omaha. He could see that I was following him thourought the day and that I wanted his autograph badly. After crushing a drive and splitting the fairway, he told security to let me under the rope and walk to his second shot with him. He put his arm around me and he and I walked by ourselves. I can’t remember what he said to me because I was so star-struck, but he gained a fan for life that day. I will never forget it.
What you did for this kid is give him something he will never forget either. I see similarities between my experience and his. Scotty, you are a true gentleman and a class act.

Scotty is an amzing person
Signboy may be one of the nicest people i have met
I had the chance to hold the scorers sign in one of his groups at a Wolf Challenge.
HE gave me his blue mini crowns headcover and took a picture with me
They are both amazing!
What a lucky kid! But most of all, I commend you Scotty on your kindness and appreciation to all your fans! Those 3 kids will never forget for sure. You have given us all Scotty collectors something in common – that is we all share in the admiration and appreciation for your craft and all that comes with it! A real class act Mr. Cameron and more power to you.
Scotty this is the icing on the cake. I introduced Christopher to your putters a few years back. I am an avid golfer and collector, each time Christopher comes to my house he heads straight to the golf rack to see if there are any new Scotties to check out. The one Scotty I wish I owned is now Christopher’s prized possession. I met up with Christopher at the driving range a couple of weeks ago just to check out his pimped out putter; Wow! Thanks for making his year! You are a classy man Mr. Cameron.
