The Harley & Teddy Putters

May 22nd, 2007

What started out as an interesting story on The Cameron Collector about a young boy named Harley with an eye for Scotty Cameron putters has turned into a collective effort to get this little guy his own putter. This, in turn, initiated other acts of giving and resulted in another group effort for a kid named Teddy. You can read more about these acts of generosity here.

After checking out the various chat boards and learning more about these kids and their stories, I decided to get involved. The Cameron collecting community is made up of guys with an incredible passion for putters. It’s always amazing to me to drop in on the discussions to see what’s going on. But, it obviously goes far beyond putters. It’s about camaraderie and friendship. After reading about Harley, I had to get involved. So, I donated the Custom Shop services for the Harley and Teddy projects. I’ve had fun restoring a Newport for Harley and a Studio Design 2 for Teddy, both donated by members of the Cameron Collector community. Just finished them up today and they will be on their way to their new owners this week.

Again, it’s just awesome to see a group effort pan out like this and turning into something as cool and fun as giving a kid his very own putter.

Scotty thanks for taking the time and effort to add your own special touch to those putters. I was surprised when one of your folks interjected into the original thread about Harley. This kind of giving is what makes being part of the Cameron collecting community special.

It has been the great pleasure of my life to see a man I respect so much for his art and passion in making the best putters that will ever be, impress me beyond imagination by enhancing the lives of these two young men (and so many more to come) with his craft. Thank you kindly Scotty for leading by example and giving so much hope to myself and others in your own life’s work. Scotty, I love you man!!

Harley just turned twelve this week, and I am certain he will always remember that 12 was a good year. soon he will have his own putter made by Scotty.

Mr. Cameron,

I am truly impressed by your contributions to these children. Random acts of kindness, especially with children, are far too rare. You and your team deserve the greatest applause. Thank you for setting the example that continues to solidy the sense of community among your fans.

This is the first of many “group efforts”. TCC has a group of guys and gals that go above and beyond the call of duty. We are a tight knit community that love collecting Scotty Cameron products.

Scotty and Custom Shop staff, we owe you a big “thank you!” for your help and posting an awesome slideshow for Harley and Teddy to see.

See you in Columbus!

I think kindness comes from our hearts and every single human is full of kindness though not every one wants to unleash the positivity.

:o ) Harley & Teddy, its just the begining because there are too many kids out there with too many dreams to be full filled by guys like us.

I think after 30 years of playing “the game”, I have finally found a putter that had feeling. Striking a golf ball can be learned, but putting is all about feel. To me the biggest improvement to the putter is putting the hosel into the shaft of the club. There is so much more feel then when you hang a club head onto the end of a shaft. My little 33″ Laguna with the Baby T grip is incredible for feel. I think I can finally stop searching for the perfect putter because for me…I have found her.

Thanks Scotty!! You have created the best addition to my bag.

The whole story of Harley and Teddy helps to remind us why random acts of kindness are so necessary. In a world propelled forward sometimes by tragedy and hurt, stories of people coming together to help others is awesome.

Thanks for the help in getting these 2 putters ready, but even more for bringing us all together. Because after all, it was a Scotty that started it all.
